Social Security numbers exposed on Iowa land-records Web site

In the latest example of a privacy controversy that has become increasingly familiar nationwide, it came to light this week that a publicly accessible Web site maintained by the Iowa County Recorders Association (ICRA) has been posting land records containing the Social Security numbers of thousands of state residents — including Gov. Chet Culver — since January 2005.

Far Too Many Trojans!

If you have TrendMicro Internet Security Pro and have done a scan to find that you have far too many TROJ_Generic and/or TROJ_Generic.adv files in your quarantine - and you look at the list finding Windows Systems files, you DO NOT have a Trojan in your computer system. This is a newly discovered problem in TrendMIcro pattern file updates and you need to fix the problem.

Researchers build malicious Facebook application

A team of researchers have built a malicious Facebook program called "Photo of the Day," which serves up a new National Geographic photo daily. But in the background, every time the application is clicked, it sends a 600 K-byte HTTP request for images to a victim's Web site.

Microsoft to release four critical patches

The patches to be released next Tuesday include fixes for a vulnerability that allows remote code execution in Windows Media Player 11 and for a vulnerability that allows remote code execution in various versions of the Windows OS and related products. The two other patches will address remote code execution in Windows Media Encoder 9 and in Office and Office OneNote 2007.
