FCC seeks more comment on telecom reforms

The U.S. Federal Communications Commission has decided to seek more comment on proposed changes to two programs, the Universal Service Fund and intercarrier compensation, that have been controversial for years.

Are taxpayer-funded networks a good idea?

Every now and then another municipality tries to put up its own ISP infrastructure. The latest to try -- Palo Alto, Calif. -- may fare as poorly as most previous U.S. cities and towns have, but if it manages to succeed, its approach could be a prototype for bringing high-speed Internet service to communities.
