Twelve unnecessary Vista features to disable

Vista packs a lot of code--more than any version of Windows ever--and some of it is just plain unnecessary. You can regain some PC performance by removing the 12 Vista features listed here. Some are shiny baubles that slow down graphics performance, while others are optional utilities that hog memory when they shouldn't. A few can actually be quite useful, though they play a major role in bogging down your PC.

Vista may still have its day

What do we know about Vista? That home users hate it, businesses are uninstalling it, and still it will be more popular at the end of this year than Windows XP was at a similar juncture -- with 28% of the PC operating system installed base worldwide, vs. 22% for XP at the end of 2003.

Microsoft sees uptick in use of 64-bit Vista

People are beginning to use 64-bit Windows Vista on PCs in favor of the 32-bit version of the OS faster than they have previously, Microsoft said this week.
